Joining Commitment

When you initially join the TA Signallers, you a required to do a minimum period of service of three years.  You can, of course, apply for a discharge at any time, or later extend your service for one, two, three or four years at a time.

You need to commit yourself to TA Signals training but it is not every weekend as many people think (although if you can spare it or have nothing else to do, why not try as many weekends as possible?  You'll get paid).  There is a minimum amount of training needed in order to claim your annual tax free financial bonus (part of the pay and expenses you receive as a member).  It is understood that sometimes work and family commitments make it difficult for people to attend, however, where possible you must still try and attend.

For 2 Signal Squadron (an Independent Unit, same holds for all Independent Units) the following is required :

Minimum 27 days per year from the following:

  • Weekend training
  • Two weeks' annual camp (this is a must!)
  • Units also hold training sessions one evening a week in the local TA centre

For other units (namely Specialist Units), the following is required:

Minimum 19 days per year from the following:

  • 2 weekends per year
  • 2 weeks annual camp
